Greece. The name conjures up images and ideas that have become part of the fabric of Western civilization. The myths and legends of the Greeks inhabit the imagination.

Since 1989 over 250 Penn State and other CIC students have studied Greek history and culture in the shadow of the Parthenon. In courses covering such areas as Greek archaeology and art, the origins of philosophy and rhetoric, Greek drama and poetry, Greek religion, Greek warfare, the history of sport and athletics in Greece, the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires, and modern Greek language and customs, these students have climbed ancient walls, walked in ancient temples, studied ancient texts, and immersed themselves in the fountainhead of Western culture while they have explored a thriving, modern, exciting European society. Virtually all previous participants agree that there is no better way to learn about the history and culture of this extraordinary country than to spend a semester in this program. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
